My Friend And His Exercises For Sciatica

I recently had a friend who was diagnosed with sciatica.  Being that he has always been pretty active, it was a difficult diagnosis for him to deal with.  After spending time researching what it meant to have sciatica, he thought he would go back to trying some options that were natural.  One of his top picks was doing exercises for sciatica.  He being pretty active and somewhat of an athlete,it seemed to help push him in this direction.

Now when he first started reading about exercises for sciatica, he was a little apprehensive to start doing the type of exercises that he was reading about.  Now you have to get a mental picture of what my friend looks like.  He is about 6’3", weighing in around 210lbs.  He really is a solid kind of guy, so when he realized that the exercise that he was looking at wasn’t like anything he was used to, he kind of stalled.  It was pretty funny to think of seeing this big strapping guy doing some exercise and not just any exercise.  But yoga!!  Stop laughing for a minute, yes I did say yoga.

So here he is this big old guy who is used to exercises such as heaving weights that add up to 250lbs on a pretty regular basis to do trying to move into cat pose.  Ok, I know that’s pretty funny.  Let me tell you the visualization alone made me laugh, but listening to him trying to describe how he managed to get from one pose such a downward facing dog to sun pose, brought tears to my eyes.  I think I laughed for about 20 minutes, when I was done, my stomach hurt so bad, it felt like I had just done 500 sit ups.  Oh man, let me tell you it was hard to control.

But my friend is a trooper and a true believer in making sure that if he has to do something, he does it 100% right.  And so he listened to his doctor and began doing yoga.  His doctor said do exercises for sciatica and that is exactly what he did.  And do you know what he told me.  He said that his back never felt better.  He wondered why it took him so long to try yoga, even though it made him look like a giant idiot, his back felt so much better.  And he actually has started to enjoy his morning yoga.  It’s a good way to relieve the pressure in his back.  If you have the same issue, then try yoga.  You too can find relief and checking out these exercises for sciatica here.

Searching For Sciatica Relief

Searching For Sciatica Relief?

When you understand sciatica you can then begin to find sciatica relief.  Many people don’t even know that they are suffering from sciatica.  And it is very common for individuals to walk around with this problem, live in pain and not once go and see a doctor.  Often times, they don’t even think that they should see a doctor.  They think that the pain can be subdued with a few over the counter pain relievers and viola there is no more pain and they have relief.

But getting sciatica relief doesn’t work like that.  You see you are going to need to be diagnosed by a doctor to start the process to gaining relief.  Once you have been diagnosed with sciatica you can begin to explore your options.  And yes there are options for you to choose from that do not include surgery.  Although surgery sometimes becomes your only resort to finding relief you have to be mindful that there are options around that may work besides surgery.

If you have catch sciatica early enough you can begin to try options that will be less invasive.  Such options to provide sciatica relief would be knee pillows, exercise, yoga, acupuncture as well as visiting a chiropractor.  While the last three options may seem puzzling to provide one with relief, they work.  And I would be happy to expound on why.

For starters when you exercise you allow the muscles in your body to loosen up.  And if you stretch before you start to exercise, then that is even better (Which all trainers and doctors recommend that you should do).  Now yoga is probably the best exercise option for individuals who are experiencing sciatica.  Yoga is all about lengthening ones spine.   Most of the core exercises focus on specifically relaxing your back and lengthening your spine which allows for a lot of fluidity in your muscles and oxygen.  All of these are very important to providing you with the end result of sciatica relief.

Then you have acupuncture, which I find very interesting, to say the least.  Yes I’m talking about when they put needles in your body and you look like a human pin cushion.  Does it hurt, not if you go to a trained professional, which is very important.  Basically they engage the pressure points which allow you to relax your muscles providing you with relief.

Sciatica relief is within reach, you just have to know where to start.  And starting with your doctor is the very best way to begin your road to sciatica relief. Go here and see more about sciatic relief and more options.
